Rachel Hawe, PT, DPT, PhD

Assistant Professor, School of Kinesiology

My research interests are focused on improving outcomes for children and adults with neurologic impairments including cerebral palsy and stroke. I believe that applying engineering tools to rehabilitation problems can allow us to better understand the deficits individuals have and then develop better therapies. My background in biomedical engineering and interest in rehabilitation led me to the joint Doctorate of Physical Therapy and PhD in biomedical engineering graduate program at Northwestern University, where I complete my PhD under the supervision of Dr. Jules Dewald. I then completed my post-doctoral training in Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Calgary with Dr. Sean Dukelow. I also have clinical experience as a physical therapist working with a wide variety of patients. I joined the University of Minnesota in August 2020. Outside of the lab, I enjoy running, cycling, and cross country skiing.
